Red Eye Tree Frog are generally calm, sensitive. They do not like being picked up, and even with daily socialization usually do not become comfortable with being handled. They are tree dwelling frogs and are not venomous.

Size: range from small to moderate, with an average weight of between 6 and 15 grams, according to the website for the Philadelphia Zoo. The body length of female red-eyed tree frogs slightly exceeds that of the males.

Temperament & Personality: Excessive handling will usually stress a tree frog, making them ill or even causing death. This species of frog is a pet that should be admired and observed, not handled and or played with. They are quiet, when breeding season starts they become noisy, ribbiting and croaking continuously. They are notorious escape artists and powerful jumpers, pet owners of tis frog will need to make sure the aquarium’s lid is sealed tight.

Cage Requirements: These frogs are communal frogs that should not be kept solitary. They should be kept in groups of 3 or 4, with one male and the rest females. The Red Eyed tree frogs require daytime temperatures of 77-86 Fahrenheit and night time temperatures of 70-75. They also require a humidity level of 60-70 percent with daily misting. You should have 15 gallons (56.8 L) or 20" x 10" x 17" worth of enclosure per adult red eyed tree frog.

Diet: Crickets, earthworms, grasshoppers, mealworms, flies, moths, and small spiders. This species is insectivores that only eat live food; they eat basically anything that is smaller than themselves.

Colors: Red Eyed tree frogs have neon green bodies with yellow and blue marking on their sides, red feet, bright blue upper lips and bright red eyes.

History: They are found in tropical lowlands from southern Mexico, throughout Central America, and in northern South America. Nocturnal carnivores, they hide in the rain forest canopy and ambush crickets, flies, and moths with their long, sticky tongues. Red-eyed tree frogs are not endangered.
